Welcome
to our course blog, which will be used primarily for the class to
post responses to our assigned readings. Each article, chapter, or
excerpt will have its own blog post (on the main page), and in that
post will be the questions I'd like you to consider for that reading.
When you are ready to post your response, do so as a Comment on the
post, and be sure your name is included one way or another so you can
receive credit.
As much as possible, use your own words to complete the following tasks;
you should feel no obligation to quote the reading directly, unless
perhaps you have a point to make about a nuance of language, wording,
or the finer aspects of the author's point. When you do feel it is
necessary to quote, be sure to use quotation marks and parenthetically
cite the appropriate page number(s). Those responses that are
thoughtful and complete will receive full credit. To receive full credit for
any response, you should devote at least one paragraph per question
asked in the prompt post.
As this is an informal, ancillary assignment, focus more upon the
substance of your ideas and less upon the particularities of the writing
itself. Feel free to mention, play off of, question, or agree with
your peers' comments on the same topic, but please keep all such
interactions strictly collegial.
Finally, you should read over the class's comments before we
meet in person to discuss a reading assignment. The digital conversations
we begin here on our blog may serve as the starting point for the more
dynamic conversations we hold in class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
